ABOUT THE HOST ORGANISATION
The Modri December Institute, the Institute for Promoting Awareness of Autism and Asperger Syndrome Koper, operates with the aim of offering comprehensive support activities to people with autism, their families and professionals who encounter children/people with autism in their work. The target groups of the Modri December Institute are parents of children with autism, children and adults with autism, professionals, students, volunteers and the interested public. The activities of the institute are intended for users from the Coastal Karst, Goriška and Primorsko-notranjska regions, as well as beyond.
DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY
The volunteer will be involved in the activities of Zavod Modri december, an organization supporting children, youth, and adults with autism. They will assist in social skills workshops, social events, and one-on-one support for users. Tasks will also include helping set up and maintain a youth room, preparing materials and spaces, and creating content for social media. The volunteer will take part in weekly team meetings, monthly supervision, and receive regular mentor support. The project also includes language learning, exploring the local community, and the chance to develop a personal project. This is a meaningful opportunity combining volunteering, solidarity, personal growth, and support for one of the more vulnerable groups in society.
PARTICIPANT PROFILE
We are looking for a volunteer who:
- is between 18 and 30 years old,
- is interested in working with children, young people and/or adults with autism,
- is patient, open-minded, and respectful of diversity,
- is willing to take on a supportive role (listening, observing, assisting),
- wants to learn and grow in the field of social inclusion, communication, and youth work,
- can work independently but also enjoys being part of a team,
- is open to engaging in a variety of tasks, from workshops and social events to preparing materials or creating content for social media.
No previous experience is required – what matters most is motivation and willingness to learn. We welcome applicants who want to contribute to a more inclusive society while developing personally and professionally.
European Solidarity Corps volunteers will be supported by a coordinator and a mentor and will attend an on-arrival training course and mid-term evaluation organised by the MOVIT National Agency.
ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
Each volunteer will:
- receive monthly pocket money to the amount of 5 EUR per day and an additional 8 EUR per day for food expenses;
- be registered for the ESC insurance scheme HENNER;
- receive a contribution to the travel costs (the amount will be calculated based on the travel distance of the volunteer);
- receive the support of a mentor;
- receive an opportunity to develop a personal project;
- be offered a chance to join a language course with a group;
- receive a Youthpass certificate;
- volunteers will live in an apartment in the city center in a shared room with another volunteer.
WHO CAN APPLY
The call is open to young people aged 18-30 from Programme or Partner countries.
